It also has a communal terrace on the top floor, which is accessed by stairs or elevator, with beautiful views of the city. See AllLos Dolmenes de Antequera The set formed by the dolmens of Menga, Viera and El Romeral, located in the Malaga city of Antequera and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016, is an archaeological site of extraordinary beauty and uniqueness, as well as one of the best exponents of European Megalithism. These constructions, as usual in megalithic monuments, are characterized by the use of large blocks of stone that form chambers and roofed spaces, and were usually used for ritual and funerary purposes.The dolmens of Menga and Viera are located in the same enclosure, which can be accessed on foot from the center of Antequera, while the megalithic tomb of El Romeral, although it is also part of the set, is about 4 km away, which makes it necessary to travel by car.El Torcal de Antequera Antequera has one of the karst landscapes more beautiful and impressive of Europe, El Torcal, a place where erosion has been shaping the rocks until forming a museum of natural sculptures and where you can also enjoy hiking through the beautiful routes besides tracing ancient cultures.Alcazaba de Antequera Within the walled complex of the Islamic medina two more or less differentiated enclosures were distinguished: the Alcazaba, which occupied the entire crown of the hill, and a second ring that, descending from the Puerta de la Villa, continued towards the Postigo del Agua and Puerta de Málaga, to rejoin with the White Tower. The most important tower of the whole enclosure is that of the Tribute. Its plant is angular. The interior is accessed by a door marked by two large smooth column shafts and a lintel. Among the rooms inside, there are several rectangular and covered with skiffed vaults. On this tower was built, in 1582, a bell tower, to shelter the main bell of the city. Joined by a stretch of wall to this tower, is known as Torre Blanca, which surprises by the technical perfection demonstrated in its ashlar factory.Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor Historical informationThe construction can be dated in the years 1514 – 1550. It was founded on the initiative of the Bishop of Malaga Don Diego Ramírez de Villaescusa. In the works of the temple, numerous ashlars from the Roman city of Singilia were used. The traces were initially made following Gothic models, as we can see in the header, to conclude the works within the purest Renaissance style.Its architectureThe exterior of Santa María stands out for its grandiose façade, undoubtedly the most monumental in Antequera. Made entirely of ashlar stone, the tracist of this façade articulated it in three streets separated by buttresses, in each of which a door opens, the central one being greater than the lateral ones.In the attic we find a blind balustrade, very Renaissance. Analyzed in detail each of its elements, we see how they want to respond to a new style, disconnected from the Gothic. Perhaps the fluted conical pinnacles are the elements of greatest rarity. The ornamentation of the façade, is located mainly in the three large niches, responding to a very geometrizing decorative design, with some mannerist elements.Plaza del Portichuelo The Chapel-Tribuna de la Virgen del Socorro or La Capilla del Portichuelo as it is more commonly known is located in the square of the same name from where you can see spectacular scenery with the mountains in the background. Built in the 16th century, it stands out for its arches and for the ceramic façade with geometric figures in a very colorful combination of colors.Religious elements are mixed with elements of popular architecture. It is one of the emblematic constructions of this city. In this work, Mudejar style elements are intermingled with elements of Antequera’s culture, recalling in some small details the Mosque of Cordoba.City of Antequera Museum In the monumental city of Antequera, the City of Antequera Museum was created as a “Municipal Archaeological Museum” by the City Hall on the 4th of August, 1908 at the request of the archaeologist Rodrigo Amador de los Ríos. The first premises were located in one of the ground floor corridors of the Municipal Palace, specifically the one that borders with the Iglesia de los Remedios, where over the next fifty years an important collection of pieces of great historic value, mainly from Roman times, was put together.
